Marilyn writes: A sense of uncertainty permeated the whole school year everywhere, with the absence of teachers who are serving in the reserves, in addition to many of the children's own parents, mostly their fathers. Curriculum material was missed, so bagrut exams and grading had to be altered accordingly. Thousands of children have been studying in unfamiliar schools, away from the buildings, teachers and even the friends they knew. Of these, 45% have studied in at least 3 schools this past year. It seems that most of the evacuated children will be in the same situation when the new school year is due to start, in September.
We, at the Talia Trust, aim to give a feeling of certainty, be it for remedial language lessons in the primary schools or pre-Bagrut assessments in the high schools. Through our emergency appeal, we also fund psychological therapy for some children who have been grievously affected by the traumas of this year.
